​About The Role

Forest Schooling UK CIC is seeking a flexible, creative and emotionally intelligent School Tutor to support the delivery of our unique SEMH curriculum.

This role focuses primarily on delivering small group and 1:1 interventions in:

  • Phonics, reading and maths 

  • GCSE Functional Skills Maths

  • GCSE Functional Skills English

The successful candidate will work under the guidance of the Head of Curriculum, while also contributing to the development of wider curriculum areas based on their own strengths, interests and experience.

This is not a conventional tutoring role.

Our young people aged 7-16 often arrive with disrupted educational histories, negative experiences of school, trauma backgrounds and significant barriers to learning. Progress here is built through relationships, consistency, emotional safety and creativity.

We need someone who can teach academically while understanding that behaviour is communication and regulation comes before learning.

Main Responsibilities

Teaching & Learning
  • Deliver engaging Maths and English sessions from Functional Skills through to GCSE level

  • Adapt learning for young people with SEMH needs and neurodiversity

  • Deliver lessons to individuals and small groups 

  • Use creative and practical approaches to engage reluctant learners

  • Support literacy, reading confidence and numeracy development

  • Differentiate work to meet EHCP outcomes and individual needs

Curriculum Development
  • Work alongside the Head of Curriculum to help shape and develop curriculum pathways

  • Support the development of additional curriculum areas based on skillset and interests

  • Contribute ideas for project-based and experiential learning

  • Help embed emotional development alongside academic progress

SEMH & Relational Practice
  • Build safe and positive relationships with young people

  • Use trauma-informed and restorative approaches

  • Support emotional regulation during learning

  • Maintain consistent boundaries and expectations

  • Work collaboratively with behaviour, pastoral and therapeutic staff

Recording & Communication
  • Maintain accurate records of progress and engagement

  • Contribute to Individual Support Plans (ISP)

  • Use Arbor and other systems to record learning and behaviour

  • Attend daily briefings, debriefings and curriculum meetings 

 

Essential Skills & Experience
  • Strong Maths and English curriculum knowledge

  • Experience supporting or teaching children and young people

  • Ability to engage learners with SEMH needs

  • Good communication and organisational skills

  • Ability to work flexibly and creatively

  • Understanding of safeguarding responsibilities

Desirable
  • Teaching or tutoring qualification

  • Experience in special education

  • Understanding of trauma-informed practice

  • Experience working with neurodiverse young people

  • Knowledge of restorative approaches
