British Values at Our School

At our school, we prepare young people to take an active, positive role in society. We promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect, and tolerance of different faiths and beliefs through our core school values of Ready, Respectful & Responsible.

These values shape the way we learn, work, and live together as a school community. They guide how young people participate in decisions, treat one another, and develop the confidence to make thoughtful choices.

Democracy

Democracy means that everyone has a voice and that decisions are made fairly by listening to different views. We encourage young people to be Ready to share ideas and participate in discussions, while showing Respect by listening to the opinions of others. Through group learning, collaborative decision-making, and opportunities to contribute to school life, young people learn that their voice matters. With this voice comes Responsibility. young people that expressing an opinion also means considering the views and needs of others.

The Rule of Law

The rule of law helps communities remain safe, fair, and supportive for everyone. In our settings, young people are Ready to understand expectations and why rules are important. Our shared boundaries help everyone feel secure and able to learn. young people show Respect by following agreed expectations and recognising how their behaviour affects others. When difficulties arise, we encourage reflection and repair, helping young people take Responsibility for their actions and learn from them.

Individual Liberty

Individual liberty means having the freedom to make choices, express ideas, and develop as an individual. We encourage young people to be Ready to try new experiences, take safe risks in learning, and explore their interests. Young people are supported to develop confidence in their abilities and their voice. Alongside this freedom, young people learn to show Respect for the rights of others and take Responsibility for their choices, understanding how their actions contribute to the wellbeing of the whole community.

Mutual Respect

Mutual respect is central to our school culture. Young people are Ready to work together, share ideas, and support one another in learning. We actively encourage kindness, empathy, and positive relationships. Young people demonstrate Respect through their words and actions, recognising the value of every member of the community. They also take Responsibility for creating an environment where everyone feels safe, included, and valued.

Respect Different Faiths and Beliefs

We encourage young people to develop curiosity and understanding about the diverse world around them. young people are Ready to learn about different cultures, beliefs, and traditions through discussion, stories, and shared experiences. They show Respect by valuing differences and recognising that people may hold different perspectives.

Our young people learn to take Responsibility for building a community where everyone feels welcome and accepted, regardless of background, belief, or identity. Through our focus on Ready, Respectful & Responsible, we help pupils develop the character, confidence, and understanding needed to thrive both within school and in the wider world.
