The Future

Whilst continuing to offer our interventions, our vision is to offer a full time learning environment for those unable to return to their education in a mainstream setting. We will all learn in a unique way, tailored to each individual child.
A little bit about us

Since 2018, Forest Schooling UK has been dedicated to working with children outdoors, grounded in our belief that the environment plays a vital role in providing a strong foundation for life.

In 2022, we transitioned to a non-profit organization and became an Alternative Provision (AP). We now operate two sites in Kingston Upon Thames, London, and are Quality Assured by Kingston Council. We understand the challenges many children face in traditional school settings, including struggles with emotional regulation and the constraints of rigid curriculums.

In 2025, we will be launching a full-time learning environment designed to support a small number of children, providing them with an individualized and nurturing educational experience.

What will the environment look like?
We’ve removed walls, grey tables, and blue chairs. Gone are the noisy corridors and distracting displays. We don’t resemble a traditional school, and that’s intentional. We believe children learn best through hands-on experiences rather than conventional classroom settings. All of our learning happens outdoors, regardless of the weather. Of course, we provide shelter and indoor cabin spaces, which children can use as they choose but we do believe that learning in calm natural spaces helps our children learn in a unique way.
Who can apply?
Priority will be given to children in KS2 to KS4 on an EHCP pathway who have a presenting need related to SEMH, leading to a breakdown in their school placement. These children will already be known to us, as they are typically referred by the Education Inclusion Service (EISS) at Achieving for Children (AFC) into one of our interventions.
How many children will be in a class?
We won’t have traditional year groups, and children will connect with one another through shared interests. They won’t be grouped by age, as we believe children learn at their own pace, especially those who have experienced disrupted school placements. Our current cohorts are limited to 8 children, and we will maintain this size during the initial phase. As we grow, new children will be thoughtfully and gradually introduced.
What does the 'curriculum' look like?
Simply put: there is no traditional curriculum. Instead, each child will have a bespoke education plan tailored to their individual interests. We offer three learning pathways, which children can progress through at their own pace: Roots, Nurture, and Growth. Roots focuses on a reading program and introduces our 8C’s curriculum. Nurture includes AQA Entry Level Learning and online modules, all delivered on-site. Growth involves personalised plans that gently challenge children, encompassing subjects like Maths and student-led projects with associated qualifications.
When will this happen?
We’ve recently acquired a new plot of land in Kingston upon Thames, directly across from our current site on Lower Marsh Lane and near Berrylands Train Station. Our first priority is to install a secure fence to ensure everyone’s safety. Once that’s complete, we’ll be ready to open – it’s as simple as that! Children will have the chance to actively participate in developing the space while learning. They’ll help build sheds, animal enclosures, and an allotment, all in an environment where they can play and learn at their own pace. We’re excited to offer our first placements starting in September 2025.
What will happen to our current interventions
Our current provision will stay unchanged. Both our sites, at the Hogsmill and St John's School, will continue to operate as satellites of the main school, providing the same high-quality experience our children currently enjoy. They will also benefit from additional staff and the shared expertise across all our sites.
